"Financing Environmental Risks and Green Building"
Environmentally sensitive development can present a variety of lending challenges. Lenders must assess environmental aspects of redeveloping contaminated properties and evaluate new technologies and financing mechanisms. Regulatory agencies are becoming more involved in redevelopment projects and are developing risk-based compliance requirements that must be considered for financing decisions. This presentation will focus on ways that lenders address environmental issues in lending, leasing, and equity scenarios.

Sustaining Development Through The Triple Bottom Line
The development industry drives our economy, our personal prosperity, and our quality of life. Yet how often do we ask where this drive is taking us? It could lead to a scarcity based existence limited by degraded and diminished resources, enabling us to survive but not thrive.

Or it could lead to an abundance based existence where community and economy grow stronger and better as they get denser and older. The triple bottom line is a robust and self perpetuating paradigm – the multidimensional shift we must master to create sustainable patterns of development and abundance.

“Take a Deep Breath: A Comprehensive Look at Indoor Air Quality”
How to address indoor air pollution and resulting negative health and economic effects by designing, constructing, furnishing, and operating buildings with the goal of protecting the health of the occupants. This presentation attempts to shed some light on the importance of healthy indoor environments using current statistics and case studies.

Participants will learn how to minimize indoor air pollution and how to maintain good indoor air quality. They will learn about recent technological advances both in building construction both in building construction techniques and building operation, and material manufacturing that allow for healthier, indoor environments.

The presentation will feature how green building rating programs such as LEED approach indoor air quality. Participants will hear about state and federal indoor air quality regulations, various certification programs in the marketplace, and resources for indoor air quality and low emitting products and materials. Case studies and actual construction/building examples are used throughout the presentation.

Optimizing Performance:
Integrating Quantitative Analysis into the Design Process

Nicolow & Sami will outline the quantitative analysis tools now available to A/E teams, providing an overview of the state of the art in building energy simulation software, including whole building energy analysis, daylighting simulation, shading analysis, and computational fluid dynamics. Using real-world case studies from Lord, Aeck & Sargent's portfolio, the presentation will demonstrate how to harness these tools to inform the green building design process, creating high performance green buildings.

LEED 301 – Beyond the Basics
Upon completion of a LEED project, it is common to realize that it was not as expensive as originally thought, not as hard as originally thought and produced a better product than originally thought. This realization is made when a design team breaks through the barrier of the unknown into the realm of understanding. This session assumes that most building professionals have at least heard of the LEED program and will then set out to unearth some of the fears, myths and urban legends that surround green building design and shed light on how to practically complete a project…for real.
